Amazon will release six pilots for the fall season to see which customers decide they like the best.
“I am excited to see which shows spark conversation amongst our customers and what they want to be made into series,” VP of Amazon Studios, Roy Price, said.
Half of the pilots are created by women writers, including One Mississippi, written by comedian Tig Notaro and Diablo Cody.
The dark comedy will be based loosely on Notaro’s life as she returns to her hometown after her mother’s unexpected death. Transparent’s Noah Harpster will play her older brother Remy, John Rothman will be her stepfather Bill and Casey Wilson will play Notaro’s girlfriend Brooke. Louis C.K., Blair Breard and Dave Becky will also be executive producers.
Another pilot, Good Girls Revolt, is a feminist drama based on the real events of the female writers at “News of the Week” fighting to be treated fairly in the newsroom. Z will star Christina Ricci as the Southern Belle that meets and marries writer F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Patriot is a political thriller in which Q’Quinn plays a State Department director of intelligence whose assignment is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Edge is based on the western book series with the same name. It’s set in 1868 and follows a Union officer turned cowboy. Highston is a comedy about a 19-year-old who is the only one that can see his celebrity friends so his family force him to get psychiatric help.
“Our latest pilot season brings together a diverse group of shows that we think customers will really enjoy,” Price said.
If the pilots get picked up into series, they will be released on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, which is included in the $99/year Amazon Prime subscription.
